What is The Best Way to Clean LVT Flooring?
LVT should never be soaked but should be cleaned using a well rung-out wop, or a damp cloth with warm water and it can be vacuumed or swept with a soft-bristled brush to remove any debris.
What Products Should You Use to Clean LVT Flooring?
At Tile Mountain, we have a range of accessories for you to use when cleaning your floors, but you should always make sure that you check your LVT flooring manufacturer’s instructions before beginning the cleaning process.
How Do You Clean LVT Flooring without Damaging It?
Never use harsh chemicals, detergents or materials like steel wool, and always wipe the floor down with a damp cloth and clean water after the use of any chemicals.
Always Read Manufacturer Instructions Before Cleaning
Different flooring brands have different instructions for how to clean their laminate floors, so always make sure to read through your flooring’s specific guidelines before beginning the cleaning process.
Don’t Let Stains Sit for Long Periods
Slips, splashes and spills are an inevitable part of everyday life – just make sure they are wiped away as soon as possible in order to prevent damage. Pools of liquid can cause LVT flooring to stain, discolour or fade if they are left for too long.
Stay Away From Abrasive Tools
Harsh chemicals, detergents and other cleaning materials such as steel wool are too abrasive for LVT flooring as you would risk damaging the surface. Make sure to only use vacuums without beater bars or rotating brushes as this could scratch the surface – some vacuums have different flooring options, so take a look at yours before cleaning.
Mop (Carefully) Every Two Months
Microfibre mops such as our EasyClean Dual Purpose Mop are gentle options for LVT flooring that will clean without damaging the surface. Ring out the mop until it is almost dry so that there is not too much water on the surface, as this could discolour or fade the LVT flooring.
Skip Cleaning Products That Aren’t Labelled as Suitable for LVT
Oil-based cleaning products can leave streaks and residue on the surface, or they can even damage the protective sealant of your floors. We recommend only using laminate specified cleaning products such as our LVT Cleaner.
Protect Surface from Future Damage
There is a lot that you can do to protect your LVT flooring from future damage, and it’s cost-effective too! Avoid wearing spikes shoes such as stiletto heels or football studs and make sure that your pet’s nails are regularly trimmed to avoid scratches on the surface. Add furniture pads under chairs and tables (especially those which are frequently moved) and use floor mats and rugs, particularly by entrances, to help prevent wear and tear. Welcome mats help to prevent dirt from building up or being brought into the room, as it can dull or even scratch the LVT.
