Our Customer Tile Style Profile feature takes an in-depth look at some of the fantastic renovation projects our customers complete using products from the Tile Mountain range. This month’s installment sees us catching up with Alex Chuplis of Kettering who used our Kashmir Natura Outdoor Slab Tiles to create a stylish exterior patio area for his home…
What were the circumstances behind the project?
New build properties are notorious for providing a strip of slabs and turf. I desired a low maintenance garden that was both eye-catching and a space I could host parties and gatherings with friends and family. The garden was a project that was top of my list for sometime. Two years on and we are now complete.
Was your choice of decor & colour scheme influenced by the tiles you chose, or did you pick the tiles to fit in with a style you’d chosen for the rest of the space?
I picked the outdoor tiles first. I‘d previously bought the tiles for the front of my property and wanted them to match the rear. After purchasing the tiles the colour scheme and decor kind of followed. I wanted to stay clear of all grey, it is predominantly grey but I think the brown fence makes it pop. There are still some plants, garden furniture, and accessories to purchase so I’m sure there will be some colour appearing soon.
What made you decide that the tiles you chose were the right tiles for your project?
I live alone with no children or pets, therefore these were the perfect tiles for me. They have that shiny porcelain look which immediately catches your eye which is exactly what I was after. It gave me that Hollywood vibe.
How long did the project take to complete and did you do the tiling yourself or hire a professional tiler?
I would love to say I did the tiling myself but I’m a big believer that you either have it or you don’t, and I certainly don’t hold that skill or ability! I hired a professional landscaper, SPS Multitrade, they worked with me every step of the way right up to the last detail. It took no longer than two weeks due to some of the weather we experienced.
What part of the project was most difficult and why?
I would have to say preparing the area for the workmen. I moved all the slabs by myself from the roadside to the rear garden. I think the most difficult aspect for the landscapers was ensuring the pattern they chose was consistent throughout when laying the tiles.
Do you have any further decorating projects lined up?
The front is due to be redone due to a different landscaper completing the work in a poor way. We then move onto a big tiling project inside the property. Kitchen, both bathrooms, and hallway.
What advice would you give to people considering undertaking a similar project?
My biggest bit of advice would be to do their research and don’t compromise. Be OK with your vision changing throughout the process even halfway through the project, it’s sometimes where the magic happens. Take advantage of the sample service that Tile Mountain offers and lastly, don’t be afraid to voice your specifications to a landscaper – I was specific right up to how many millimetres there should be between the fence and tiles!
What would you say to people who are thinking about buying tiles from Tile Mountain?
This is the second time I have purchased from Tile Mountain and I would not go anywhere else. The service is next level, right up to delivery. The quality is superb and the choice of products they hold is impressive. I’m gearing up for the internal tile purchase in the new year!
