We’re all getting a little bit excited about the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Weekend. It’s almost impossible to resist the air of celebration and cheer that’s gradually developing! The window decorations, street flags and banners are going up, and yes, some of us are brushing down our outdoor entertaining spaces, ready to host a party or two over the weekend of 2– 5 June! Here’s our roundup of some fab things to buy and some inspiration for your own Jubilee décor …
Plan a Party
Parties need balloons and balloon arches are a fun decoration that can be left in place for the duration of the Jubilee jubilations! This Queens Jubilee Party Balloon Arch Decoration arch kit is from Ginger Ray and there’s a helpful tutorial video on how to make a balloon arch here.
Perfectly Decorated
Most of us can probably rustle up a tablescape for a family party, but we rather like the idea of a properly co-ordinated Jubilee theme. Such as the Jubilee Tablescape decoration set available from Dress for Dinner. How practical to have everything together in one place, rather than racing around different shops and websites to gather up the numerous bits and pieces. Just add cake and fizz!
Time for Tea
The Cath Kidston Jubilee Plates are stylish and can be brought out for all kinds of cakes and sandwiches. We rather like the idea of these being used for future special occasions, too. See the rest of the nostalgic collections from Cath Kidston here.
A Celebration Cake
Anyone who really wants to make a centrepiece celebration cake should take a look at what British Apples & Pears have come up with, in collaboration with Raymond Blanc. This apple mousse showstopper cake looks completely wonderful and uses English Bramley, Lilibet and Royal Gala apples, alongside a dash of Calvados. See the entire recipe here, and we would love to see any pics of your Jubilee cakes, of course! Send them to us via our Instagram page @tilemountain
Take a Seat
This is the award-winning Darwin armchair from the Jubilee Collection of bespoke furniture by Gabriella James. It’s made from solid ash, and for each Darwin chair and Turner counter stool sold during 2022, the team will Plant a Tree for the Jubilee … more info on their Jubilee Collection page here.
Make a Statement
Plain walls can be turned into a statement with just one simple print – such as the Union Jack Art Print from Abstract House. It’s available framed or unframed and definitely adds a touch of British zing to an interior scheme.
Serve in Style
Get those glasses of fizz and Pimm’s safely in and out of the garden with a jolly tray; this is the Queens Platinum Jubilee Round Tray, available from Annabel James; there’s also a Union Jack Luxury Merino Throw available too, which looks very snuggly indeed …
Cake! Cake! Cake!
If our previously mentioned Apple Cake sounds a bit complex, then go back to basics with a glorious Victoria Sponge. My go-to recipe is the Nigella Lawson Victoria Sponge, and there’s absolutely no reason why it can’t have a few extra strawberries or raspberries added for super-special occasions (depending on your choice of jam filling). And of course, some Jubilee toppers are definitely required! These are from Talking Tables and there are lots of other decorative Jubilee ideas available here.
A Cushion to Treasure
The idea of collecting one or two Jubilee-themed accessories to keep forever is appealing, and the Street Party Cushion in Navy from Jan Constantine definitely falls into that ‘potential heirloom’ category! It’s just one of several delightful Jubilee designs, see the rest of the collection here.
Get the Tea Towels Out!
Where would we be without a Royal tea-towel or biscuit tin … it’s required behaviour to treat ourselves to a least a tea-towel, a mug or a biscuit tin at times of national celebration! These are from the collection by Sophie Allport and we think they solve quite a few gift dilemmas for the rest of this year!
Toasting the Jubilee
The Union Jack toaster from Smeg is a special edition; it’s a two-slice model, looks sleek and stylish with a 1950s air about – although we’re pretty sure that toasters in 1953 didn’t look quite as stylish as this one!
A Royal Cuppa
If you love a commemorative tin, try the Elizabeth II Tea Tin from the Westminster Abbey Shop. Which is interestingly, full of unexpected surprises! We were particularly taken with the Orb and Coronation Chair Christmas decorations, which could be another idea for the keepsake box!
Whatever you’re doing over the Platinum Jubilee Bank Holiday we wish you a happy and peaceful celebration, from all of us at Tile Mountain!
