On the 21st of April 2024, Tile Mountain proudly sponsored the Pennine Parkies in their walking football match, an event dedicated to supporting those affected by Parkinson’s disease. Based in West Yorkshire, the Pennine Parkies provide a wonderful opportunity for individuals living with Parkinson’s to engage in a fulfilling hobby alongside friends, offering a fantastic way to stay active and connected.
Parkinson’s disease is a progressive neurological disease that primarily affects movement, often leading to tremors, stiffness and difficulty with balance and coordination. As the disease progresses, symptoms like these can make everyday living increasingly challenging. Walking football offers low-impact, community-driven sports, not only helping maintain physical fitness but also promoting social interaction and mental well-being, offering a supportive environment where participants can thrive.
Walking football is an adaptation of traditional football, designed to allow those who are perhaps less mobile to enjoy the game at a more manageable pace. The key rule in walking football is that players must keep one foot on the ground at all times, eliminating running completely! The slower tempo means it’s more accessible, but don’t be fooled, it’s still just as thrilling!
At this event, the Pennine Parkies were split into two groups, one was the white team and the other was the black team. We were proud to sponsor and be featured on the back of their jackets while they did their thing and represented their team! Both groups made it to the semi-finals, but the white team won against the black team on penalties. Unfortunately, they went on to lose in the final, but it’s safe to say it looks like they had a great time regardless!
